Harmony House is a Community Interest Company and works in partnership with the Local Authority, Community and Voluntary organisations in delivering a range of community based services and projects. For several years we have been at the forefront of support to the community through various projects targeting all age groups.
Barking and Dagenham Volunteer Bureau was established in 1992 with the aims of working towards relieving the isolation felt by many members of the community of Barking and Dagenham. In order to achieve this, the Bureau has developed a number of services to work with vulnerable people as well as supporting individuals and organisations within the borough who offer their time and services for the same aim.
Harmony House and Barking and Dagenham Volunteer Bureau have teamed up together to deliver the Silvernet.
Silvernet aims to be network of Get Together Groups providing opportunities for isolated and lonely residents of Barking and Dagenham to make new friends and increase social contact and improve their safety and ability to remain independent. These groups provide lunch, refreshments, creative activities and games, skill sharing, informative talks and entertainment to the participants. Come along and join other residents from Barking and Dagenham for a special time of fun and friendship.
Get Together Groups
For isolated vulnerable residents who live in Barking and Dagenham. The aim of the groups is to get together, have a chat, make friends, take part in activities, bingo, crafts and exercises. We also have many representatives who come along to offer support and advice and make everyone aware of what is happening in the Borough. Refreshments and cooked lunch are provided. Transport can be arranged for residents who cannot arrange their own. A fee is charged for attending.
Volunteers call a number of isolated vulnerable residents on Mon to Fri mornings just to give them a friendly voice to talk for 5 to 10 minutes just to make sure everything is ok. This gives the resident the opportunity to talk through anything they wish and to give them the opportunity to ask for any help they may need.
Job 2 Do
One of the main needs of vulnerable residents of the Borough is the assistance of reliable qualified people to assist them with specialist jobs around their homes. We can assist with odd jobs like changing light bulbs, moving furniture, small painting and decorating, Gardening etc for the elderly and disabled residents of the Borough. The service is charged but the charges are much lower and the team which provides the service are police checked.
Computer Clubs (Silver Surfers Club)
Our aim is to help adults become computer literate by learning the basics of computers, browse the internet, share information and keep abreast of the latest computer developments for their personal use and enjoyment.
